Turkeys and geese had been bought for as much as £80 and £78 respectively at Halls auctioneers’ annual Christmas Dressed Poultry Present and Sale.
And M. A. Andrew and Son, Ty Cerrig, Meifod, gained the prize for finest hen with an 11¾lb chook.
Yvonne Andrew from M. A. Andrew and Son, was delighted to win the prize for finest hen and are available runner-up for one of the best turkey. “Our chickens have accomplished marvellously effectively this 12 months,” she stated.
The occasion at Shrewsbury Public sale Centre attracted a big crowd and aggressive bidding on Thursday.
The highest prize went to a 26lb bronze turkey from S. and S. Murray, Shipley Pattingham, Wolverhampton, whereas the heaviest turkey prize was gained by Stuart Edwards of Norbury Turkeys with a 38.5lb chook.

The pre-auction present was judged by Alan Tomlinson, a second-generation turkey producer from Cheshire.
Norbury Turkeys gained one of the best goose and finest duck prizes with 13lb and 9.5lb birds respectively.

The opposite turkey placings had been second place for M. A. Andrew and Son with a 12½lb chook and third place for Staffordshire Turkeys with a 12½lb chook.
The highest-priced chook was a 27lb turkey from C. and S. M. Edwards of Freehold, Norbury, which bought for £80.

Geese bought for as much as £78 for Daybreak Westwood of Bridgnorth for a 15lb chook, a 12lb duck from C. and S. M. Edwards bought for £40, and an 11lb hen from H. Edwards, Blakeley Stud, made £35.
Mr Tomlinson stated: “It was a wonderful present of poultry and the standard over all, notably the turkeys, was superb.”

Shrewsbury Public sale Centre supervisor, Jonny Dymond, stated: “It was a pleasure to promote with smiling distributors and consumers across the pens.
“It was a really profitable well-attended sale with 111 completely different consumers.
“I wish to thank the producers for supporting this annual present in larger numbers this 12 months and need them and the consumers a really merry Christmas and a cheerful 2025.”
